Why will "Datasheet View" not show up as the default view for a list when inserted into a Webpart?

I imported an Excel spreadsheet into SharePoint 2010 as a list.  Now when I insert the list into a webpart, it refuses to default to datasheet view, regardless of how I set up the default views.

Any ideas on how I can make this webpart hold the list and stay in datasheet view?
