I recently migrated thousands of files from an old file server to a new Sharepoint server. I did this manually by copying files over and renaming files and folders that had unsupported characters in the file / folder names. I manually added the appropriate permissions. My questions is:
We've not cut over from the old file server to sharepoint so files are still being updated on the old file server.
Is there a tool out there for purchase or free that I can run, that will compare files and folders in Sharepoint site against my original file server and copy new files / folders?
Is there a tool that can rename files / folders to an acceptable sharepoint format? Originally I left the original files and folders in the file server and copied the ones that needed to be renamed to my local drive, renamed them there, and uploaded to sharepoint. This was a tedious process involving many man hours, if there's an automated process that someone has experience with, I would greatly benefit from your post.
