Here is a strange behavior with document library. I hope someone can explain why this occurs.
I have a file in my document library. In the document library, users are forced to check out file before editing.
Some files are read only, and some editable.
When I check a read only file, check out button on the ribbon is disabled. It's natural.
When I click the document and open it with excel, the file will be opened in read only mode. Also natural.
But in excel, there is a status bar that suggest "when you want to edit this document, please check out", and I can click "Check out" button. Once clicked, the file is checked out. It's a read only file. I have no permission to check out the file.
Not with all document, just only one document works like this.
This is quite strange, and I have no idea how to investigate this problem.
