How to Remove the Hyperlink for a Lookup Column in a SharePoint List

Adding a lookup column to a SharePoint list creates a hyperlink to the display form for the item in the reference list. However, you may not always want your users to be able to link back to the originating list. Convert the list that contains the lookup column to a Data View Web Part (DVWP) and use the Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT) substring function to remove the hyperlink from the lookup column.
