I'm developing a metadata strategy using term store. Because we have several departments and the department data is all different, I am building different terms based on their individual requirements. However there are some higher level terms such as department
and company that are global to all documents.
The document library than is mapped to the term store via CT.
So a single document will be tagged with Company, Department, Product, Stage, Category, etc.
I want to have adequate fields to enable searching and navigation but not too overbearing and where we have redundant tag fields. So I’m looking for a balance.
Because my sites are based per department, I’m wondering if we actually need Company or Department as a taggable field. For navigation probably not because the user is already in a site that is department related, and not for search either as I can filter search via department.
I would be interested in seeing how others are tagging their documents. Can anyone share document libraries showing taggable fields and/or term store?
