Cannot create a link list on SP site home page

Hello,

I have recently started with a company with a 2010 SharePoint installation.  The option for creating a link list in SharePoint is not available (many of the types of lists you might want to create are not available) when creating lists from the home page.  If I go to a subsite I am able to create the full list of lists without a problem.

Is this an issue with the template that was chosen at startup?  Is there a resolution?  Can I create a link list from the command line in powershell?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

To hide the white bottom which appears in page zoom

I tried to see a sharepoint site in mobile browser. The site has two pages each containing a content editor webpart and a third page has server webpart. These custom webparts can only be visible only if we modify the mobile browser settings to request desktop site. If I zoom the page to view contents of the webpart, there appears a white space at the bottom of the screen which occupies half of the screen. How should I remove this?

User cannot see subsite on drop down menu Top Navigation Bar

I cannot figure out why a user is unable to see subsite menu item on the drop down Navigation Bar.  The user has Limited Access to the Management Team page.

I have already looked at

  • Site Settings
  • Look and Feel
  • Navigation
  • Under Global Navigation there is a Header called Departments
  • site - Management Team 
  • Edit is disabled 
  • Link - Department Pages (user has access)

How do I give the user the ability to see the drop down menu "Management Team" item in the Navigation Bar?

content type publishing is not working in across farm environment Share point 2010

we are trying to publish content types updates from Hub site colleciton to Subscriber site collection. but updated content types / New content types are not publishing from hub to subscriber.

hub and subscriber sites are in different sharepoint farm. Mangage meta dats serives is working fine from A farm to B farm.


Subscriber - B Farm,HUb -A Farm

noticed Content subscriber job is completing quickly(max 0 - 15 sec). 

Nothing is traced in Logs. 

Any help is appreciated Thanks!

Sharepoint 2010 - Claims / STS - ULS Log Errors

I have a sharepoint 2010 farm which uses a custom auth provider.  Internet users come in through a portal using FBA - with a login control.  Intranet / Extranet users authenticate differently.

Once a user logs in, or attempts to login.  We start seeing an error per second in the ULS logs indicating that the message could not be authenticated (oasis) -- Our custom provider does make some service calls behind the scenes for other avenues of user validation for unregistered users.

The STS is set to "Issue Token"

If I change the STS config to the base SSPI setting, then the service errors out.  Users are still able to login, but, the STS service is down.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Backup through central administration - A backup/Restore is currently in progress

Hi,

I Started Full Farm Backup through sharepoint 2010 central administration. 

However, the backup restore status page is showing only this for hours now -

Readiness:

A backup/Restore is currently in progress

Timer service is running

administration service is running

Preparing current backup/restore job. If the backup/restore job does not begin after five minutes, make sure that the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Timer Service is running.

Many months ago I had initiated a granular backup also but still it shows the above screen only. No backup file has been created or anything.

Please suggest how to stop these 2 backup operations.

PS: When I checked monitoring -> review job definition. There were 2 jobs related to backup - backup/restore and site collection backup. When I clicked on them both had NA mentioned for web application and last runtime.

Document Set and Bread crumb navigation issues.

Hi,

I am using default document set for shared document library. Form document set "permission page" or "workflow page" or "in any folder in document set" not able to come back to document library using default bread crumb navigation.

Link is redirecting to document set welcome page that is "docsethomepage.aspx".

This is happening in all out of the box sites, it may be SharePoint 2010 product issue.

So, please help me to resolve this issue.

How can I split a webpart into 2 horizontal blocks

I'm totally new to SharePoint and have been developing this website for quite some time. I'm supposed to split a section in my home page into two horizontal blocks containing different web parts/elements. Can someone please tell me how.

I can't post a link or image yet so I'll just describe it. Imageine a rectangular web part in the home page. Right now it just contains Team Discussion. But what I want to do is to split the section into 2 horizontal blocks. Team Discussion on Top, while Announcements in the bottom part. Can anyone please tell me how to do that? thanks

Hello,

I am using SharePoint foundation 2010 and that site have lots of document library which is created by custom SharePoint feature.

Custom SharePoint feature details are give below.

1.Create sub document library in five stage like First Stage -A library

      B library

2. Clear & assign permission on every document library.

Now i just want to move this sub site from one site to another site with all permission.

So please help me to import it without any failure.

how to move all the content of site collection X into site collection Which are available under same root site and same content DB.I want to move all the documents libraries and list along with the assigned unique or inherited permission with out any change for them. I need to move\copy the site collection X to Y.

I have sharepoint 2010 STD with SQL 2008R2, whenever I try to create new site collection thru central admin then getting below error.

An error occurred during the processing of /_layouts/error.aspx. There is not enough space on the disk.

Windows 8 problem - "Sharepoint Sites" missing under Favorites in Windows Explorer

We are having a problem with viewing "Sharepoint Sites" in Windows 8 under Windows Explorer - Favorites.

After accessing a document library on our Sharepoint 2010 intranet server, and selecting "Connect to Office", a shortcut should be created under the Favorites menu in Explorer. This is what works for our Windows 7 clients, but not the Windows 8 clients.

Should this not be possible? I can't seem to find much about this problem with Windows 8 after searching the web, so perhaps I'm missing something?

Multiple Custom List Questions

Hello,

I am creating a custom list that has a "Status:" Column.  This will be a multiple selection item of Green, Yellow, or Red.  I would like to make it so once an individual selects one of the three colors it makes the word or entire entry that color.  Please advise.
Also!
I am having some trouble with the ID column.  I need to number these entries starting from #1 and going up to #1500.  While using the ID field, it is continuing to auto-number even after I delete entries which is causing a gap in the numbering.  Is there any way to 'reset' the ID field or perhaps a way to create an auto-numbering field in SharePoint Designer 2010 or within the custom list?  Please advise.
ALSO!
I have a field called "Primary Contact" and would like to the list auto-populate another field based on the selection of "Primary Contact".  I understand this is a bit broad, but I have never done anything like this before.  Any advice is very much appreciated.  Thank you!

Index Column Error

Hi

I'm trying to create an index of a list with very large amounts of items.

ere is what I'm trying to do:  

1. Go to the list.  

2. Click on List > List Settings.  

3. Scroll down and click on 'Indexed columns'.  

4. Click on 'Create a new index'.  

5. Select 'Viewing Day' for the Primary Column.  

6. Click on 'Create'.  


This creates the error message:;The attempted operation is prohibited because it exceeds the list view threshold enforced by the administrator.

Any ideas?

User name change User information list

Client has sites in SharePoint 2010

A user has changed her last name, and the changed last name is not being reflected on the site.
As a process i made a not of the groups in which the user was added (Ad group was added and she was within that AD group.)

Things done till now :-

1) Tried to get the name/account by accessing this link "<var class="sbody-var" style="box-sizing:border-box;font-family:'Segoe UI', 'Segoe UI Web', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Helvetica Neue', 'BBAlpha Sans', 'S60 Sans', Arial, sans-serif;font-size:15px;line-height:20px;"><Site URL></var>/_layouts/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=0" but was unable to find her with her old and or new name (was trying to delete her and add back ).

2) Checked and confirmed that the name was changed in the active directory.

3) Checked UPA and made sure that the Preferred name/display name is as per the changed active directory. (FYI Site is 2010 but consumes UPA from SharePoint 2013)

4) While adding her account on the site i am able to search with the new changed last name, however when i add her account it changes back to her old last name.

5) i am also able to search her with her previous last name.

Please suggest steps to address and solve this problem

Add a custom library view from the root site to the subsite

Hi, 

I am trying to add an infopath form library view (with custom content type) from the root site to its subsite page.

I saved the library in the SPD to a webpart, but when I added the webpart the to subsite's page, I got the following error:

UnexpectedSystem.ArgumentException: Value does not fall within the expected range. 

I increased the resource throttling to 30 but still not working. 

But when I upload the SharePoint's default Document library, it works. So what is missing in my setting?

I need to POST xml list to an external website with receiving API

Is there a way to use a POST to directly send a list from sharepoint to an external website with API set up to grab xml files?

This is my first time using sharepoint and we need to send a list on a daily timer to an external website. They have been entering it in manually, but want an automated connection straight between sharepoint and that external site. However, I can not find any information on this.

Any help would be very helpful as there seems to be nothing out there on this.

Sharepoint Alerts not sending emails

I have a problem that I can't seem to understand. I have a user who has set up alerts for a library with the settings shown below:

For some reason I cannot understand, the user with the issue does not get an alert when an item is added or when any other action is taken on the library. However, when other users, including me, set an alert with the same settings on the same library we get notified with no issues. We are connected to an SMTP server that does the sending.

Things we have tried

  • We checked to see if it may be a permissions issue but it is not.
  • We also tried deleting the user's alert and recreating it but to no avail.
  • The user also checked their Outlook rules but there is none that would apply and we have verified that the user is able to receive mail from SharePoint.

Is there anything else that I can try to do in order to fix the issue? Any help is greatly appreciated.

email message lookups

Hi,

I am using workflows to configure an email to be sent out when a new item is created on a sharepoint list.

The email message structure I am looking should contain the ID of the item being created and a link to the sharepoint list item. This works.

I would like to add to the email a list of all items on the list that contain a specific reference on one of the columns. e.g. One of the column on the list is "customer". So when a new item is created with "customer" Cust1, I would like to see on the email body a list of all other  IDs that contain Cust1 in the "customer" column.


Do you think this is doable? Thank you
