Today I noticed that a user had embedded links to documents inside a multi-lined text field in a list, rather than attaching the documents to the list item. This method stores the uploaded documents in a series of nested lists in the site Site Assets folder. I had never seen this done before and it seems like a very bad practice to me. For one thing, it was very difficult to read the title of the documents as there were three of them in what renders as a very narrow column in the list view so it was difficult to read. In addition, it makes for very long URLs on the document location which can get problematic in SharePoint.
Can anyone explain to me why SharePoint would even provide this functionality on a list item? Or give me a scenario where this makes good sense?
