Fetching SPList item from sharepoint 2010 using javascript or soap envelope?

Hi All,

Is it possible to fetch the SpList item using javascript????

I am using a code that is been written in the .ascx file in a visual studio project an want to access the SPlist item using script or using Soap Envelope.

Is it possible to do in either way?If yes can you suggest me how it can be done????????
