Move Sharepoint 2010 Content Databases from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2012

Greetings,

I'm looking to move all my sharepoint 2010 databases from a single SQL 2008 server to a SQL 2012 cluster.  So far I've found the following documentation:

I'm seeing some conflicting information on the forums as to whether or not the new database server must be running the same version of Windows Server and Microsoft SQL Server as the existing database server.

Can anyone provide any insight into whether I can migrate a SQL 2008 db to 2012 without having to upgrade the old server?
