Sharepoint 2010 Foundation - Check out Location

Hi,

   I have a Sharepoint 2010 Foundation site with MS Office documents & AutoCad drawings saved in a document library. When I check out the MS Office document I get an option to save the file to my local Sharepoint drafts folder. When I check out an AutoCad drawing it stays in 'some' location on the server (no option to place in Sharepoint drafts folder). This makes modifying AutoCad drawings very slow across the network. Is it possible to choose where a file is checked out to, or even default to the local Sharepoint drafts folder?
