Login prompt when clicking on list.

One of my users has reported an interesting phenomenon.  When they click on the white space of a list view embedded in a web page (basically, when the list view becomes the focus), they get a login dialog box, even though the list is set up to allow anonymous access.  Very strange!  Any ideas as to what could be causing this?
