I know how to setup Autonumbering on a sharepoint list/library. However, a new scenario has presented itself. People have to log their correspondence on sharepoint, email, scanned letters in post etc. It's fine for autonumbering if they just save the information onto sharepoint and it is assigned a number. They would then use that as their register.
However, when someone is sending a letter or sometimes an email, they will need to have a number first. There will be other people looking for numbers at the same time so I was wondering what would be the best way to do this? I wanted to make it as seamless as possible, i.e. people are just ccing the library as an email address and numbers are assigned.
Has anyone got any suggestions? I know that possibly they could go into a seperate list and "reserve" a number but how do I know which correspondence them belongs to which number as they could get a group of numbers together.
