Howdy,
I'm having a few users that are reporting random, intermittent check-out/check-in and general file connectivity issues with SharePoint and was wondering if you guys have any suggestions as to where I should focus on.
Some of the symptoms:
- Users say they checked-out the file but while in Excel, the information panel shows either the document is offline like shown below shows no connection information at all as if the document was a locally hosted document. SharePoint would report that the document is checked-out to the user so the user will try to check the file in from the Edit Control Block but ends up overwriting the server file with the incorrect version.
- Document is checked in, checked out by a user, user makes changes and then tries to check the file in but they get an error and is unable to check the file in.
- I try to check out a file that was previously checked out and checked in by another user but it doesn't let me and says that it is currently in use and is locked by the other user.
Some details about my environment:
- Centrally hosted farm serving global users via WAN and VPN connections.
- 3 Load-Balanced WFEs.
- Users reporting issues span multiple sites but not all (so far).
- I don't seem to have any reports of users experiencing this issue from the main office where the servers are located.
How would you guys go about troubleshooting this? Would you think this is an issue with affinity settings at the load balancer? Drop packets?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
