Html document garbled when hosted on Sharepoint

IE10 on Win7 SP1 x64.
I've written a small Word 2010 doc, with the default Word 2010 style, saved as filtered html and posted it as a generic document on our sharepoint library.

Now, when this file is opened from the sharepoint, it is garbled in places that contain footnote references. It looks like next line after a footnote reference writes over over the previous line.
What can cause this?

When this html file is opened directly from my desktop, it displays well.
The file on sharepoint is not changed: I've downloaded it back and compared.
Firefox displays the page well, of course, either from the sharepoint or local drive.

So is the problem in sharepoint or IE10?

I've seen mentions of "Page Viewer Web Part" in other threads, is it necessary to use it?

I do not have permissions to change design of the sharepoint library, and frankly do not want to. Just to share the file with the team.

[Please do not propose using wiki, we cannot currently,  for some stupid reason]

Thanks,
