Making the month view different from the day view in sharepoint 2010

Pretty sure that I already know the answer to this question, but I have to ask it anyway.

I'm being asked to configure our SharePoint calendar so that if users are looking at the entire month, they will see entries of type A, B, and C, but if they then click on a date to see the day view, they will see entries of type A, B, C, D, and E. To illustrate, let's say A, B, and C are software deployments, platform upgrades, and network maintenance, and D and E are vacation and offsite training sessions.

Here's the desired flow:

An application I support asks me to schedule a software deployment, and gives me a one week range in which they would like it scheduled.

I navigate to the calendar, and am taken to the month view by default. I see all deployment, upgrade and maintenance entries, for that month, and I find a day in the requested range where there are none that will affect the application making the request (there may be deployment entries for other applications, and that's fine), so I can schedule a new deployment.

I then click on that date, and I'm taken to the day view, which shows me all entries - deployment, upgrade, maintenance, vacation, and offsite training sessions. I am able to usethat view to see if the deployment engineers will in fact be available on the selected day. If they are, great - I go ahead and schedule the deployment. If not, I go back to the month view, where, again, I only see deployment, upgrade and maintenance entries, and see if I can find another open day.

I'm hoping the above will clarify what it is I'm trying to do, and even more hopeful (but doubtful) that there is in fact a way to do this. Any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
