Hi all,
having a bit of a problem that I've been approaching for a while, but any solutions I've come up with have all had down sides. This cannot be an uncommon thing to want to do, but I can't see how you are SUPPOSED TO do it, given the OOB tools.
Forms -> User fills in personal details -> submits to a LIBRARY because that's the only place you can use a FORM TEMPLATE (? eg: xsn...) -> but there is no option in LIBRARIES like there is in LISTS for "Item-level Permissions" - in librarys this option is replaced by the "template stuff".
So my assumption is that perhaps the creation of a document in these libraries needs to trigger a "private item" workflow that sets permissions on the document to "[ME]" - somehow, I'm guessing a lot of this as I'm pretty new to workflows in any depth... or perhaps I'm looking at this wrong and there is some way to put the data in a form/InfoPath form in a list and enable "Item-level Permissions"...
Or... something completely different...
Any direction, suggestions, improvements or guidance appreciated...
[update]
Hmm... I think I'm on the way to understanding this, but I'm not feeling good about it...
I think the "idea" behind the original development was to use InfoPath to create a "digital version" of existing form, and then have those forms in a document library for reference...
However I think that perhaps the "sharepoint" guys were thinking that the DATA in the form should live in a list (since it by itself is not really a document, just data) and that the InfoPath form (XSN) file could conceivably live in a library (perhaps a forms library?!) but that its "data store" would be the list in question... and that list could be "Item-Level" access...?
Am I on the right track?
Is there some doco on this stuff - how and why of the ways of using InfoPath with SharePoint, I can't find much...
If I am on the right track that fills me with dread because that means there is every chance that I really need to extract all the data from a Forms Library into a List and "rejigger" the InfoPath form (and workflow?) to go to the new list...
Can anyone point me in the right direction or clarify some of this stuff that I'm apparently mis-groking about sharepoint lists/libraries and forms...?
