Hello,,,
I am totally new to SharePoint and I must say there is much to learn.
Problem:
I have a document library that contains many PDF documents represnting reports
I have three columns defined on the document library: "platform" "Application" and "Report Type"
Every document has been assigned values in eaach of the three columns.
What I want to do is to go to the document library and display only those rpeorts that pass the filter criteria, from within a landing page on the the SP site. In other words from an informational page about the reports, I want a visitor to be able to use the filters (on the three columns) to then see the reports in the document libray that meet the criteria in order to choose the report they wish to view.
What I have done is:
1. on the landing (information) page, I created 3 webparts - one ror each filter and placed then side by side in the normal progression hierarchy on the page.
2. when I click on each of the filter drop down icons, I get the correct contents.
3. What I am seeing is a message under each filter that says "This filter is not connected. " Clicking on this message gives additional instruction: "Open the Web Part edit menu and choose "Connections" to connect this filter to other parts".
4 doing this, I get the drop down beside the filter name where I can choose from "Send filter values to" (greyed out) , " Send Default values to" and "Get default values from". The later two point to the other two filters than the one I am hoping to connect. but nothign happens... I was hoping the filter would connect to the document libray so that after all choices, I would go to the douemtn libray with only the documents matching the filter criteria showing. Nothign happens. I stay on the same page as the web part filters are on.
How do Iget to the filtered document library reports based on my filters on a different page?
Thank you for any assistance you can offer.
Cheers!
