Sharepoint 2010 & CRM

I know there is a solution for accessing Sharepoint from CRM, this allows you to create documents etc. My question is, we can use BCS to connect to an external database, in this case a CRM database. I imagine this will break the MS CRM support rule by updating CRM this way??  If so, is there a supported way to update CRM via SharePoint?
