I still got lots of research and reading to do, but I got a few questions (curiosity) im hoping someone can give me a rundown on:
How to setup sharepoint to replace network drives? Should each user be given there own site collection and be setup as site collections admins. Then setup 40 users (site collections) per web application in this way? All we would do as IT is customize
a template for them so there is a standard?
Then what about shared network drives? Do you create a site collection for each 'share' that has a distinct people who have access to it? For example right now we have several different shared network drives, and some of those drives and folders and sub folders with different permissions.
Is sharepoint workspace a legitimate tool to teach end users, or should users be 'forced' to use the interface? I guess the same question sort of applies to folders. Isnt setuping up folders better to keep users happy?
At what point do you think sharepoint is ready to micro-rollout to a single department (like IT or admin) for testing? Is a good early 'test/beta' time when you have search, office web apps, and email configured?
I am a web dev (PHP). Ive only done very minor .NET things in the paste and a few small vb6 programs. Is learning ASP.NET worth it to design SharePoint webparts or is everything I need more or less already out there?
