Consolidated view of all documents from different document libraries

Hello All,

Goal: Have a consolidated view of all the documents from 4 different document libraries in the same sub-site. It needs to be a document library like view, where you can sort and with the usual columns Type, name, modified, modified by, etc. Just like a Doc Lib.

I am dealing with Sharepoint 2010.

Have come across a lot of articles which speak about CQWP and I have that working, the document libraries I am dealing with have Allow content types and a document content type is created, which I am currently using in the CQWP. But this is not suitable for my goal stated above ..

I have also tried the Document Sets, Link document content type, that works, however that is a manual effort to go link the docs. That is not possible in our scenario.

Also tried creating a data source "Linked Sources" which merges the document libs I need, but haven't found a way to display them in a "Document Library" like way.

Tried using the XSLT List view, but could not locate how I could use the Linked source data source and how I could display the docs.

(worth mentioning I am new to SharePoint) This seems to be a very straight forward ask isn't it? And I seriously think I am missing something very obvious as this should be a no brainer :(

Appreciate your time a lot as I think this need a pair of fresh eye (which know SharePoint a bit more than I do) :)
