Synchronizing site collection between farms

Hi,
I am wondering what you guys thinks about this.
Customer wants a solution to regularly synchronize site collection from Production to Acceptance farm. Basically I am considering two approaches:

• Restore production content database over acceptance content database
• Use stsadm or PowerShell to :

1. backup production site collection
2. delete site collection in acceptance
3. create site collection based on blank site in acceptance
4. restore site collection

Just to have complete story:

• Both farms reside on same AD, so security and user ID’s is not a problem
• SharePoint Designer has been heavily used on both environment, so there are a lot of ghosted things.

Which approach  you would prefer and why?
