SPSWC:ProfilePropertyImage User Control - Security Trimming

Environment: SharePoint 2010 SP + Feb 2012 CU

Problem:

At our company, we allow only a subset of users access to My Sites.   We have built a portal where we want to place the SPSWC:ProfilePropertyImage User Control in the Master Page.  However,  users who do not have access to My Site are getting access denied with the control on the Master Page.  

Is there a way to hide the control based on user permissions to avoid the access denied.  We need give non-my site users access to the portal pages without having to grant them access to my sites.
